Chapter 9
Ryan awoke to find that he was once again sleeping with a woman. This time was almost stranger than last, considering that this time he remembered going to bed alone. Sylvia and Carmen shared the bed farthest from the window while he had taken the other.
Neither woman had spoken to him after his shower. Well, Carmen hadnât spoken to him; Sylvia talked incessantly, but hadnât said anything worth remembering.
Ryan had wanted to say something to Carmen, to acknowledge her help. He had spent the twenty minutes while it was Carmenâs turn to shower tuning out Sylviaâs nonsense and trying to come up with the right thing to say. But he had failed, and in the end they had gone to bed in silence.
But now here she was, lying against him. He was pretty sure she was naked. He knew she hadnât gone to bed that way. He would have remembered that. In fact, he distinctly remembered Carmen wearing something black and silky that she must have picked up during their visit to the mall. What there was of it clung to her curves and apparently elicited the appropriate reaction from Ryan, because a triumphant smile played at Carmenâs lips before she crawled in to the other bed and shut off the light.
Ryan forced himself back to the present. Like the previous morning, he moved his arm up and around to find her bare back. Yup, she was naked. And like before, when he put his arm around her, she snuggled closer against him, only this morning there was an associated murmur of contentment.
Sometime later she began to stir by his side and Ryan realized that he had been absent-mindedly trailing his fingers down the back of her body. The movement must have woken her, but he remembered how good she looked before going to bed that morning, and he let his fingers continue to roam.
The first time he allowed his hand to stray as far as the small of her back before changing its direction. Each subsequent time he let his hand stray a little bit further before calling it off and sending it on its way towards her neckâ¦.
She was definitely awake now, surprised, but not complaining. She had abandoned the other bed several hours ago, giving up on sleep after being slowly pushed to the edge of the mattress. She thought sheâd get a decent dayâs rest in this one, but had no idea it would culminate in an even better afternoon!
Ryan had been a blissfully unmoving sleeper, and she had been resting soundly until she felt his hand move out from between them, only to come back and wrap around, her pulling her close.
His hand began to caress her back, almost tender in its exploration. The sensation caused her to purr as she moved her arm slowly across his chest, her hand opening so its entire surface traveled over his body to take in the firm chest, careful to avoid his injury in case it wasnât fully healed.
